Symphonic Jazz Orchestra

Drummer, composer, educator and NEA Jazz Master Terri Lyne Carrington joins the 68-member Symphonic Jazz Orchestra in concert. The program includes music by Carrington, along with a new work commissioned from violinist Meg Okura, winner of the 2024 SJO George Duke Commissioning Prize, who will also be featured as soloist.
Carrington gained recognition as house drummer for the Arsenio Hall Show and Quincy Jones’ VIBE TV show. She toured extensively with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, and is a Grammy Award winner, becoming the first woman to win in the Best Jazz Instrumental Album category. She has performed with Al Jarreau, Stan Getz, Esperanza Spalding, Chaka Khan, and George Duke.
