Join us for a free Arts for Life Community Connections concert with the 68-member Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, conducted by music director Mitch Glickman. The afternoon concert's special guest is trumpeter and composer Keyon Harrold who will be performing his original music, including the premiere of his new work Foreverland.

Keyon Harrold is best known for his trumpet playing in Don Cheadle’s Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead. The soundtrack to the film won the GRAMMY® Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. Named by Rolling Stone as one of “Ten New Artists You Need to Know,” Harrold has released two critically acclaimed jazz solo albums and has appeared on albums by Jay-Z, Beyoncé, 50 Cent, Rihanna, and Mary J. Blige.

Included in the afternoon concert is the world premiere of Daniel Szabo's "The Shift." Szabo was the winner of the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra Commissioning Competition in 2018. The concert will open with music from Los Angeles composer Edgar Redmond (1928-1984), founder of the Modern String Ensemble.

A Q&A with Keyon Harrold and Dr. Ray Briggs of CSULB's Bob Cole Conservatory of Music follows the concert.
