The Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center celebrates the legacy of our founding benefactors by presenting emerging and legendary artists who inspire and entertain our diverse arts community. Enjoy our lobby’s permanent Carpenters Exhibit when you attend your next performance. You’ll discover displays of many of the Carpenters’ awards and memorabilia—including iconic photographs, hit arrangements, and original instruments!

The Carpenter Center is located on the campus of California State University, Long Beach near the 405, 605, and 22 freeways. Safe and convenient parking operated by CSULB is located directly in front of the Center in parking lot G12. Sandra Bernhard: Shapes and Forms
SAT, SEP 27, 2025 AT 8PM  
Comedy queen Sandra Bernhard returns with a new show packed with razor-sharp wit, hilarious tales drawn from her exotic adventures around the globe, and an always surprising and eclectic blend of perfectly curated songs. This wildly funny and unfiltered evening is a trifecta of comedy, cabaret, and storytelling!

An Evening with Baratunde Thurston
SAT, NOV 15, 2025 AT 8PM  
With generosity and humor, Baratunde Thurston tells stories of interdependence through our relationship with nature, each other, and technology. The Emmy-nominated host, futurist, comedian, cultural critic, and proud Earthling helped relaunch The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, worked for The Onion, and hosts the PBS TV series America Outdoors as well as the popular podcast Life with Machines.

Mandy Patinkin in Concert: Being Alive with Adam Ben-David on Piano
SAT, FEB 7, 2026 at 8PM 
Emmy-winning television star, Tony-winning Broadway legend, and Golden Globe-winning film icon Mandy Patinkin electrifies our stage in an uplifting evening filled with beloved Broadway and classic American tunes—including favorites by Irving Berlin, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, and Harry Chapin. A titan of screen and stage (The Princess Bride, Homeland, Sunday in the Park with George), Mandy Patinkin commands a dazzling musical celebration of life through unforgettable songs.

Melissa Errico: The Streisand Effect
WED/THU, NOV 12–13, 2025 AT 7PM 
Melissa Errico sings Barbra Streisand! Accompanied by a quartet that includes Streisand’s own 40-year pianist Randy Waldman, Melissa explores selections from the Streisand songbook that inspired her in this debut of her new show, The Streisand Effect. Performing classics by creators who became her mentors—from David Shire to Marvin Hamlisch and Stephen Sondheim—Melissa enchants with gems including “Send In the Clowns,” “I’d Rather Be Blue,” and “I Never Meant to Hurt You.”

A Broadway Holiday 
with David Burnham
WED/THU, DEC 17-18, 2025 AT 7PM 
Broadway star and acclaimed vocalist David Burnham spreads holiday cheer in this trip down memory lane as he tells heartwarming tales of Christmases past. Performing festive favorites from Broadway, film, and television, Burnham delivers the magic of the season.

Kandace Springs - Lady in Satin
WED/THU, MAR 18-19, 2026 AT 7PM
The Nashville native returns with a lovingly reimagined celebration of Billie Holiday’s 1958 album, Lady in Satin. Kandace Springs brings a new level of lushness to Holiday’s classics in this enthralling and intimate night.

The Magic of Manhattan Starring Benny Benack III 
WED/THU, MAY 6-7, 2026 AT 7PM 
Emmy-nominated trumpeter and vocalist Benny Benack III hosts an elegant, jazz-inspired journey through the songs and artists that defined Manhattan, including Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind” and Blossom Dearie’s ode to “Manhattan.”

Bilal 
FRI/SAT, SEP 12-13, 2025 AT 8PM
“there’s nothing he can’t do…jazz, soul, R&B, and hip-hop communities recognize his genius.” —NPR 
Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Bilal shares his deep love of soul, funk, and jazz in two electrifying nights of sonic brilliance. A classically trained vocalist from Philadelphia, Bilal studied jazz composition and opera in NYC and was discovered by Questlove. Bilal performs fresh material and fan favorites in this magnetic performance showcasing an innovative artist at the height of his powers.

David Benoit Tribute to Charlie Brown Christmas
SAT, DEC 6, 2025 AT 8PM
Share the festive spirit with family and friends in this evening of Vince Guaraldi tunes from the holiday classic A Charlie Brown Christmas. Starring five-time Grammy nominee jazz pianist David Benoit, this must-see show features the cherished holiday songs that have charmed generations, alongside contemporary classics.

Celebrating the Miles Davis Centennial with MEB “Miles Electric Band”
FRI, JAN 30, 2026 AT 8PM
Featuring Miles Davis alumni and next-generation innovators, this all-star ensemble is led by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning producer/drummer Vince Wilburn Jr., and features Darryl Jones, Robert Irving III, Mino Cinelu, Antoine Roney, Keyon Harrold, DJ Logic, plus special guest musicians. Experience this powerful homage and remarkable fusion of past and present as these luminaries expand the boundaries of jazz while honoring the innovations of Miles Davis’s electric period.

Lucía
TUE, MAY 5, 2026 AT 8PM
A singular new voice in contemporary jazz, Lucía Gutiérrez Rebolloso fuses traditional American jazz with the warmth of Latin folk, weaving soulful standards together with bolero and son jarocho—folk music from her native Veracruz. Lucía made history as the first Mexican finalist—and eventual winner—of the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition in 2022. In this evening with her quartet, Lucía honors her cultural roots while also bringing her luminous voice to new interpretations of favorites, including “What a Difference a Day Makes” and “Blame It On My Youth.”

The Peking Acrobats

Witness spellbinding feats rooted in more than 2,000 years of history! These masters of agility and grace display their artful athleticism, pushing the limits of human ability with their astonishing acts of contortion and control. With a legacy of superb talent and rigorous training, The Peking Acrobats bring the festive spirit and awe-inspiring pageantry of a Chinese carnival to life.

Charo
SAT, JAN 31, 2026 AT 8PM 
Experience the one and only Charo, whose vivacious humor, astounding flamenco guitar talent, and sparkling stage presence have delighted audiences worldwide. Twice named “Best Flamenco Guitarist” by Guitar Magazine, Charo delivers a performance brimming with music, dance, and her signature “cuchi cuchi” charm. A true pop culture legend!

Cirque Kalabanté 
Afrique en Cirque

Cirque Kalabanté’s Afrique en Cirque shares the beauty, youth, and artistic traditions of African culture in this vibrant and energetic spectacle filled with dazzling, gravity-defying acrobatics. Accompanied by live Afro-Jazz, percussion, and kora, the incredible artists capture the strength, athleticism, and joys of young Africans. Don’t miss this unforgettable performance inspired by daily life in Guinea!

Live from Laurel CanyonLennon and Nilsson: Songs from the Lost Weekend

Troubadours and storytellers Live from Laurel Canyon celebrate the music of songwriters John Lennon and Harry Nilsson alongside stories of their “Lost Weekend” making music and mischief together.

Yacht Rock Gold Experience with Special Guest Elliot Lurie
SUN, JAN 25, 2026 AT 3PM 
Set sail on a sea of lush harmonies with the music of The Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Ambrosia, Boz Scaggs, Little River Band, and more in an afternoon concert to soothe the soul. Special guest Elliot Lurie joins the cruise to deliver his #1 hit “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl).”

Hotel California: The Original Tribute to the Eagles
SUN, MAR 15, 2026 AT 3PM
For over 30 years, Hotel California has recreated the legendary sound of The Eagles with incredible fidelity, performing The Eagles’ Grammy-winning hits with passion and precision, including “Life In The Fast Lane,” “Take It Easy,” and “Desperado.”

Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca : Searching for Goya
SAT, OCT 4, 2025 AT 8PM 
Inspired by the drawings and paintings of Francisco de Goya, Noche Flamenca’s new work takes us on a journey through the Spanish artist’s graphic imagination and his response to the injustices of his time. Flamenco at its most transformative, Searching for Goya sees this masterful ensemble of dancers, singers, and musicians fusing theatricality with raw emotion in a performance as striking as Goya’s art.

Alonzo King LINES Ballet
SAT, NOV 8, 2025 AT 8PM
Experience two recent works by visionary choreographer Alonzo King. “Ode to Alice Coltrane” explores Coltrane’s spiritual soundscapes, diving into the composer’s masterpieces. The program also captures the imaginative storytelling of Maurice Ravel in Ma mère l’Oye as the company puts a contemporary twist on Ravel’s 1912 suite of Mother Goose fairy tales.

A.I.M By Kyle Abraham
SAT, DEC 13, 2025 AT 8PM
A.I.M by Kyle Abraham returns with captivating choreography from the company’s founder alongside a new co-commissioned piece by dancer and choreographer Jermaine Spivey. Witness emotionally stirring performances from one of contemporary dance’s leading companies.

Symphonic Jazz Orchestra

Comprised of some of the top musicians in the country, the 68-member orchestra conducted by music director Mitch Glickman returns for rich explorations at the intersection of jazz and classical music.

Jarabe Mexicano
A Bordeño Soul Christmas
FRI, DEC 5, 2025 AT 8PM
Border band Jarabe Mexicano capture the nostalgic spirit of the holidays with upbeat cumbia, spirited rock and roll, Mexican folk, and Tex-Mex, all complemented with harmonized vocals in Spanish and English. A cross-cultural celebration of the season, full of rhythm and heart!

Versa-Style Dance Company
Tribute: Guardians of Street Dance
FRI, MAR 13, 2026 at 7PM
Be inspired by the diversity and artistry of Los Angeles’ hip-hop and street dance culture with Versa-Style Dance Company. Named “Los Angeles’ Best Dance Troupe for Hip Hop Empowerment” by LA Weekly, the company brings the raw energy and exhilaration of street dance onto the stage.
