The Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center celebrates emerging artists, established acts, and legendary entertainers from around the world in an engaging mix of music, dance, and other creative performances.
To our valued series subscribers, please note that series subscriptions will return next year for our 2022-2023 season.
The Carpenter Center is an intimate 1,054-seat venue conveniently located just off the 405, 605, and 22 freeways on the campus of California State University, Long Beach. Safe and convenient parking is located directly in front of the Center, operated by CSULB. Damien Sneed’s Joy to the World: A Christmas Musical Journey

Cherish the sounds of the holidays, from “Silent Night” to Handel’s Messiah, with pianist Damien Sneed and a stellar cast of ten vocalists and musicians.
The multi-talented musician and composer takes us on a musical journey of holiday classics, including original arrangements of “Joy to the World,”“O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,”“This Christmas,” and many other gospel, jazz, and classical favorites. Damien Sneed has worked with legends Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Diana Ross, and made his Carpenter Center debut with We Shall Overcome: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during our 2018-2019 season.

David Benoit Christmas Tribute to Charlie Brown featuring Courtney Fortune

Jazz pianist and composer David Benoit presents an evening of timeless Vince Guaraldi holiday tunes from the TV classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
One of the founding fathers of contemporary jazz, David Benoit’s love for the music from the 1965 Peanuts classic runs deep: he took over as music composer for new Charlie Brown Christmas TV specials more than a decade ago. After celebrating the music of Vince Guaraldi last year in a virtual concert, David Benoit returns to our stage to continue the holiday tradition, joined this year by vocalist Courtney Fortune, named “America’s next big jazz singer” by Genlux Magazine.

An Evening with Branford Marsalis

World-renowned jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis blows the house down in an evening of dazzling virtuosity, heartfelt ballads, and telepathic improvisations with his famed quartet.
Raised in New Orleans to jazz royalty, Branford Marsalis toured with Art Blakey and Herbie Hancock, and gained fame playing with Sting and as leader of the Tonight Show Band. Beyond performing with the New York Philharmonic or composing for Broadway, Marsalis’ musical core remains the Branford Marsalis Quartet. Since its inception in 1986, the Grammy Award- winning quartet has been revered for its kaleidoscopic range, making it the standard to which other ensembles are measured.

Violinist Aleksey Igudesman and pianist Hyung-Ki Joo bring their inspired zaniness and captivating virtuosity back to our stage.
In this afternoon’s musical choose-your-own adventure, the duo—who have appeared at the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra—turn a traditional concert on its head, bringing their inventive energy to an inside-out, topsy-turvy show where every song is an encore!
